30 Jun 2008 00:00

With the AIBA President Dr Ching-Kuo Wu in attendance the AIBA Technical and Rules Commission  following the approval of the AIBA EC Bureau confirmed these events and dates for the next four years.

AIBA has blocked the dates and periods for AIBA boxing events for the next four years 2009-2012, with an aim to taking a lead role in international boxing by giving confederations national federations and multi sport event organizers the fixed dates of AIBA events as early as possible in order for them to schedule their competitions accordingly.

The highlights on the four-year calendar include the confirmed dates for the AIBA World Championships Milan 2009 August 29th-September 13th and the 2009 President's Cup in Taipei Taiwan December 4th-13th.

"I truly believed that AIBA should take an initiative on raising the standard of international boxing and AIBA tournaments" Dr Wu said. "The new calendar will allow in depth planning and preparation work to be done of the highest quality. With the confirmation of these early fixtures the opening of the AIBA bidding process will now be initiated well in advance and help the bidding cities and federation to receive better funds from their government".

The release of the AIBA four-year calendar will coincide with the opening of the bidding process for five AIBA major events - 2009 AIBA Junior World Championships, 2010 AIBA Youth World Championships, 2010 Women`s World Championships ,2010 AIBA World Cup and 2011 World Championships.
