Five swimmers from the West Midland Region were selected for the British Gas Disability team at the IPC Swimming European Championships in Reykjavik.
Sascha Kindred, Nyree Lewis (Leominster), Claire Cashmore, Fran O'Connor (Wyre Forest) and Eleanor Simmonds (Boldmere) helped the team top the medal table with a total of 39 gold, 32 silver and 23 bronze medals.
Sascha Kindred took three European titles, winning the S6 50m Butterfly in a European record time of 32.28, SB7 100m Breaststroke (1:24.15) and SM6 200m Individual Medley (2:44.90) eight seconds ahead of the field. Sascha was also a member of the 20 point 4 x 50m medley team who won silver in a time of 2:58.36.
Nyree Lewis was delighted to secure the title of European Champion in the S6 100m Backstroke with a time of 1:27.33, six seconds ahead of the swimmer in second place.
Claire Cashmore won two individual bronze medals in the SB8 100m Breaststroke (1:23.61) and S9 50m Freestyle (30.14). She was also a member of the 34 point 4 x 100m medley team who broke the world record by 13 seconds to set a new record time of 4:54.47.
Eleanor Simmonds was on top form winning four individual European titles:

S6 400m Freestyle 5:37.31
SM6 200m Individual Medley 3:11.82 World Record
Eleanor also swam in the 34 point 4 x 100 freestyle team setting a new European record of 4:33.45.
Fran O'Connor, in her first major international event, swam in two finals - S7 50m Freestyle and 100m Freestyle.
