The Regional BAGCAT Swimming Championships in Norwich have now been completed. It is however sad to report that a small minority of swimmers may not have treated the facility with the respect that it deserves.
The Centre Manager at the UEA Sportspark has reported that on Saturday 13th June, there was unacceptable levels of damage done to the changing facilities. The Manager states that when staff checked the changing area after the end of the gala on the Saturday evening,
"In the group change areas, in both the male and female sides of the changing rooms, they found ceiling tiles had been knocked down and broken, some had holes punched in them, others were covered in chocolate, a can of coke had been sprayed over the walls, ceiling and floor and one of the benches had been broken. "
Although the vast majority of swimmers, spectators and officials respect the facilities, it is unacceptable for a small minority to abuse the facility in such a blatant and malacious manner.
If swimmers do see damage in the changing rooms, please report it immediately to centre staff and ASA East Region officials. The UEA Sportspark are keen to stress that normally swimmers and spectators at Regional events have been very well behaved and that the Sportspark and the East Region very much hope that such incidences will not be repeated in the future.
