Belper Marlins 26th Annual Open Meet

Sunday 25th October saw Belper hold their 26th Annual Open Meet at the Queens Leisure Centre Pool, Derby - attendance from clubs throughout the region was excellent with over 18 clubs taking part and Belper had some great swims. Chief Coach Mick Howard said the atmosphere was upbeat and the team pulled together for a truly enjoyable competition. A sincere thank you from the promoters to everybody who contributed to the success of the Marlin meet - swimmers, coaches, Officials, stewards, recorders, announcers.

Congratulations go to Jade Young, Declan Smith and to the City of Derby for winning the Top Boy, Top Girl and Top Club trophies. City of Derby won with 230 points, Belper came in a very respectable 2nd with 196 points and Ilkeston came 3rd with 193 points.

Congratulations also to Belper Swimmers who were new to the open meet - Megan Ball, Joshua Horibin, Alex Longsdon, Rachel Ainley and Amy stone Payne
 
In total Belper took 72 medals. The meet also saw 110 PB's (55 girls, 55 boys)

Belper Marlins At The Lincoln Vulcan’s Long Course Meet

Marlin and Deventio swimmer, Frances Marshall swam magnificently at the Lincoln Vulcan’s Level 1 Long Course Open Meet at Ponds Forge on Saturday 17th October. Frances just missed a National Qualifying time by 0.2s in the 15 year girls 200m Freestyle in a time of 2.10.86s finishing 3rd.
 
In the 15 year girls 50m Freestyle Frances came 4th in a time of 28.37s and at 15 1/2 year old she achieved the 16 year girls National Qualifying Time for the National Youth Championships. After achieving her 1st NQT Frances was on flying form picking up her second qualifying time in the 15 year girls 100m Freestyle where she came 2nd in a time of 1.00.40.
 
On Sunday 18th October at the National County Team Short Course Championships, also held at Ponds Forge, Frances represented Derbyshire in the 14/15 year girls 100m Freestyle where she came 5th in a time of 59.10s. 

Marlins and Deventio swimmer, Ben Goodall also swam some fabulous personal bests when he swam for Deventio in the Lincoln Vulcan’s level1 long course open meet at Pond's forge.

East Midlands DSE Competition

Shaney Bunce Smith competed in the East Midlands DSE Swimming Gala mid October and performed like a superstar achieving 1 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

All at Marlin are very proud of Frances, Ben and Shaney and all the swimmers who took part in the recent Open Meet.
