Semi Finals
Germany 0 defeated Australia 0 (Germany won 4-3 after penalty strokes)
Germany qualified for the final of the women's BDO Hockey Junior World Cup after a penalty stroke victory over Australia in the first semi final.
When the teams couldn't be separated after 70 regulation minutes and two periods of sudden death extra time, Germany maintained their composure and executed their strokes better than Australia to prevail 4-3.
The first half was evenly contested, with Australia winning a lot of midfield ball through the hard work done further up the field to press Germany into errors. Australia couldn't capitalise as looseness with the ball contributed to their inability to control possession deep inside Germany's territory.
The match was Australia's to win in the second half as they pressured Germany into defensive turnovers to mount the tension nearing full time. However Australia squandered a number of good scoring opportunities through poor conversion in attack and some great goalkeeping from Germany's Kristina Reynolds.
After extra time was played out without too many opportunities for either team, Germany took an early advantage in the penalty stroke shoot out after a bad Australian miss. They then relinquished the edge before assuming control for the second time. Lea Loitsch then sealed the match with the 10th stroke of the competition.
The final will be Germany's second women's Junior World Cup final. The last time they competed in the tournament's decider, they emerged victorious to claim the inaugural Junior World Cup over Korea.
Australia will now play for the bronze medal.
