9th/10th Place
England 4 defeated Chile 1
Goals: ENG – Alex Danson FG 21m FG 41m, Charlotte Hartley FG 32m, Crista Cullen PC 52m; CHI – Daniela Cram PC 13m

Alex Danson scored two goals to lift England to a victory over host Chile to secure a ninth place finish at the tournament finish.

Buoyed by vocal and adoring crowds at every game, Chile concluded the tournament in 10th place for its highest ranking in three Junior World Cup appearances. Chile placed 11th at the 1989 Junior World Cup and 12th at the 2001 event.

England controlled most of the first half, but after the team failed to capitalize on some early chances, Chile stole the momentum and thrilled the capacity crowd in the 13th minute when Daniela Cram deflected a penalty corner shot high into the net for a 1-0 Chile lead.

England continued to create chances and silenced the partisan crowd when Alex Danson finished a well-executed combination from Gemma Darington and Hayley Brown to tie the game at 1-1.

With control of the match restored, England added another goal on Charlotte Hartely’s shot of the right post to take a 2-1 halftime lead.

Danson struck again early in the second half when she smashed a reverse stick high past Chile keeper Constanza Abud in the 41st minute for a 3-1 England lead.

England’s dominance continued 10 minutes later when Crista Cullen blasted a penalty corner shot into the right corner for the game’s final goal.

With the win, England secured its fourth straight top-ten Junior World Cup finish. The team adds its 9th place tournament showing to an 8th place finish in 1989, a 7th place finish in 1997 and an 8th place finish in 2001.

11th/12th Place
India 3 defeated Scotland 1
Goals: IND – Sarita Lakra FG 4m, FG 43m; Anjum Saba FG 62m;  ECO Laura Wrighton PC 30m

Sarita Lakra scored two goals as India defeated Scotland 3-1 to capture 11th place in the tournament.

India took control of the early minutes of the game and jumped out to a quick lead when Lakra knocked in a pass from Jasjeet Handa  into an empty goal for a 1-0 advantage.

Scotland worked its way back into the game however, and pulled even in the 29th minute when Laura Wrightson scored off of Holly Cram’s pass to send the teams into halftime tied at 1-1.

Lakra went back to work in the second half when a long pass into the circle hit the post and landed at her feet where she quickly put it past Scotland keeper Catherine Rae for a 2-1 lead. Anjum Saba added an insurance goal in the final minutes when she fed the ball off Rae’s pads into the goal to secure the India victory.

India’s 11th place finish comes after a 9th place showing in 2001 while Scotland earned the 12th place spot in its first Junior World Cup appearance since an 11th place finish in 1993.
