Dutch captain Jeroen Delmee broke the record for the most capped Netherlands men’s player in history in today’s crucial clash with Spain at the men’s Sahara Hockey Champions Trophy in Terrassa.

The midfielder’s 338th international appearance eclipsed the record previously held by Jacques Brinkman, a former team mate of the 33-year-old in two Olympic Games-winning campaigns.

In a career that started in 1994 against South Africa, Delmee has become one of the most decorated players in world hockey history. His trophy cabinet is littered with success at the highest level and contains two Olympic (1996, 2000), one World Cup (1998) and four Champions Trophy (1996, 1998, 2000, 2003) gold medals.

Delmee will get a chance to add to that golden collection tomorrow when the Netherlands contest the final of the men’s Sahara Hockey Champions Trophy against Germany.
