Simon Clegg, Team GB 2008 Chef de Mission, said:
“I am delighted to welcome these swimmers into Team GB for this summer’s Olympic Games. This weeks trials have showed that the team have real potential to compete against the best in the world and I wish them well in their final preparations for Beijing.”
Michael Scott, GB Swimming’s Performance Director commented:
"The team has a good mixture of youth and experience. I am very pleased for the swimmers in terms of the records that have been broken and the fast times that have been posted this week but I am especially happy for the coaches that work with the athletes on a daily basis to get those results.
This competition has been a quantum leap forward in our progression as a swimming nation. But we need to put this into perspective, many of the top swimming nations are yet to hold their trials and so we are likely to see faster times being posted on the international circuit in the coming months.
The key thing for us is to maintain the momentum we have been building going into this competition. We have made a significant step but we need to continue our good work from now until Beijing."
On qualifying for his fifth Olympic Games Mark Foster said:
"I am obviously ecstatic to have met the selection criteria and be able to go to my fifth Olympic Games. I knew roughly what times I was going to be able make here and I would be stupid not to take my place on this year's Olympic squad.
I have been swimming my fastest times in five years and I am beginning to start tweaking my programme to help me go even faster. I now have four months to get it right."
Dean Milwain added:
"I am very excited about making it onto Team GB, it is a dream come true. When I was younger and started winning regional events all my friends asked if I was going to go to the Olympics and I always hoped that I would get onto the squad so to have made it is amazing.
It still doesn't seem real that I will be going to my first Olympic Games but I think it will hit me when I see my family and friends."
