2006 Champions Trophy Winner: The Netherlands

  • The 2007 Samsung Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur will be the 29th edition of this competition. It started in 1979 in Lahore, with only one interruption in 1980.
  • Two countries have missed only one Champions Trophy: Australia (2004) and Pakistan (2000), while The Netherlands missed two (1978 and 1988) and Germany three (1978, 1984 and 1999).
  • Five countries have won the coveted Champions Trophy, with Australia, Germany and The Netherlands tied with 8 victories each, while Pakistan has won three times and Spain once.
  • 13 different cities have hosted the Champions Trophy, including Karachi (6 times), Lahore (5 times), Amstelveen (4 times), Berlin (3 times) and Madras/Chennai (twice).
  • The Champions Trophy was last organized in Kuala Lumpur in 1993, with Australia beating Germany in the Final.
  • The average age of the players participating in the 2007 Samsung Champions Trophy in Kuala Lumpur is just under 25, while the average number of International Caps is 93.

  • The two youngest teams are Malaysia (22.95 years old) and Pakistan (23.45), while the two oldest are Korea (26.20 years old) and Australia (26.65).

  • Not surprisingly, the teams with the less international experience are Malaysia (68.65 international Caps) and Pakistan (73.75), while the most experienced team is The Netherlands (114.40 International Caps), followed closely by Australia (114.25).

  • Abbas HAIDER (Pakistan) is the youngest player (18 years old) and 5 players (2 Dutch and 3 Pakistani) are still uncapped. Dutch Captain Jeroen DELMEE is both the oldest player (34) and the most capped (373), closely followed by his team-mate Teun De NOOIJER (362 Caps).
