Acrobatic Gymnastics Symposium
Veliky Novgorod (RUS), August 23, 2009
LAUSANNE (SUI), FIG Office, June 23, 2009: At a round table meeting held parallel to the 2008 Acrobatic Gymnastics World Championships, the idea to organise a symposium on the development of Acrobatic Gymnastics surfaced during a series of intense discussions. The idea has now taken shape and a symposium is planned for August 23, 2009 in Veliky Novgorod (RUS) and in conjunction with the second FIG World Cup Series this year.
The symposium will be conducted by the FIG Acrobatic Gymnastics Technical Committee, FIG President Prof. Bruno Grandi (ITA) and FIG Secretary General André Gueisbuhler and targets the Acrobatic Gymnastics community.
Three major topics will be addressed:
1. Short life cycle for competitive gymnasts
How can contributing factors such as the competitions calendar, the transitional phase between age-group and senior gymnasts, and life after competition be better exploited?
2. Increasing recognition of the discipline
How to better promote the discipline. Who are the discipline’s media stars?
3. Initiatives to increase participation
In order to increase the number of countries participating at ACRO World Championships, problems need to be identified and addressed.
The official invitation to the Acrobatic Gymnastics symposium will be sent out to the FIG member federations shortly.
