FIG Authorities Convene

Lillestroem (NOR) – Lausanne (SUI), May 23, 2009: From May 21 – 24, the International Gymnastics Federation has convened its Executive Committee and Council for an ordinary meeting in Lillestroem (NOR), near the capital city of Oslo.

The 44 members making up the FIG Parliament were received by the city’s mayor, Ms Anita Orlund, who took the opportunity to reveal that Oslo, alongside the Norwegian Gymnastics Federation, has placed a bid for organisation of the 2015 World Gymnaestrada. “My city is ready to host this worldwide event. It will serve as a springboard to soccer’s UEFA Euro 2016, for which we are also candidates!” enthusiastically declared the mayor in her welcoming speech.

Over the course of the first day, members of the FIG Executive Board, led by their President, Prof. Bruno Grandi, heatedly debated the challenges faced by gymnastics in the months and years to come. One of the main themes discussed was the complete overhaul of the presentation of gymnastic competitions, which was in dire need of change if it was to respond to public and television demands.

The posting of scores was completely revamped. Judging will be honed and the time frame used to post scores cut down. Scores given by judges will be even more closely monitored, and Artistic will be brought up to speed with Rhythmic, Trampoline, Aerobic and Acrobatic with its very own Kiss & Cry corner. The Federation is taking steps toward making its competitions more entertaining, while it champions and furthers the concepts of ethics and justice in sports.

President Grandi closed the first day of meetings with the reassurance that the FIG retains its financial stability despite the current global economic crisis.

Les reformes ont la priorité!

Du 21 au 24 mai, la Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique a réuni successivement son Comité Exécutif et son Conseil, en session ordinaire, à Lillestroem (NOR), à proximité de la capitale Oslo.

Les 44 membres composant le Parlement de la FIG ont été accueillis par la Mairesse de la ville, Madame Anita Orlund, laquelle a dévoilé que la Fédération norvégienne de gymnastique et sa Ville sont candidates à l'organisation de la Gymnaestrada Mondiale de 2015. 'Ma Ville est prête pour cet événement planétaire. Il nous servira également de tremplin à la Coupe d'Europe de football UEFA de 2016, pour laquelle nous sommes également candidat!' devait-elle déclarer dans son discours de bienvenue.

Au cours de la première journée, les membres de l'Exécutif FIG, emmené par son Président, le Prof. Bruno Grandi, ont longuement débattu des grands défis qui attendent la gymnastique dans les mois et années à venir. Il a été question notamment de la profonde réforme en cours, portant sur la présentation des compétitions, une mise à jour nécessaire afin de répondre aux attentes du public et des télévisions.

Ainsi, le concept d'affichage des notes a été complètement redessiné. Le jugement sera renforcé et plus rapide. Un contrôle additionnel des notes des juges sera introduit. L'artistique aura son 'Kiss & Cry', comme le possède déjà la rythmique, le trampoline, l'aérobic et l'acrobatique. Ces mesures renforceront aussi bien la touche spectaculaire des compétitions, que l'éthique et la justice sportive.

Le Président Grandi a conclu cette première journée en soulignant que, malgré le contexte économique mondial précaire, la FIG a retrouvé sa stabilité financière.
