FAST FACTS
- Judges are required to wear a skirt (or slacks) and a navy blue sport coat with white dress shirt!
- If an apparatus falls on the floor outside the designated area, a gymnast is authorised to use a replacement apparatus!
- If when tossed an apparatus gets caught on the ceiling, a gymnast is not authorised to start the exercise over! She can, however, use a replacement apparatus.
- Gymnasts are prohibited from wearing transparent leotards!
- Gymnasts may wear tights over their leotards up to their hips!
- A 'unitard' is a long, one-piece leotard that covers the torso and legs.
- In group exercises, apparel must have an identical cut and colour for all members!
- Hair must be worn back! Sparkling sequins, feathers or large flowers in hair are prohibited!
- Warming up in the competition hall is not allowed!
- Gymnasts may not communicate with one another during an exercise!
- A musician is an integral part of a gymnast group!
- The complete procedures for testing RG mats include three phases: shock absorption, degree of firmness, degree of friction.
- In individual competitions, the total duration of an exercise is between 1'15' - 1'30', and between 2'15' - 2'30' for groups!
- Ribbons must have a minimum length of 6 metres.
- Only 2 gymnasts have ever won the All-around title three times consecutively: Maria Guigova (BUL) 1969-71-73 and Maria Petrova (BUL) 1993-94-95!
- The age limit to participate in a FIG senior competition is 16 years (the year of the competition).
