Round Table in Rodez

RODEZ (FRA), FIG Office, June 20, 2010: Delegation heads in Rodez were invited to participate in the traditional Round Table meeting where leaders, national coaches and TC elected members, notably President Mireille Ganzin (FRA), took the opportunity to have an in-depth look at the discipline today.

FIG Vice-President responsible for the discipline, Slava Corn (CAN), recalled the need to develop a solid foundation on which Aerobic can grow and spread its wings. And in this regard, the FIG Aerobic Academies have been very successful. They fall right after the Artistic Academies in terms of participation and the number of brevets issued.

The Technical President spoke in length on the upcoming Universiade in Shenzhen (CHN), August 12 – 23, 2011, and Aerobic’s premier participation as a demonstration sport “This is a chance for our sport to be included on the roster for this event. It will get a lot of exposure, and audience participation will grow,” commented Corn, after which she thanked her partners within the Chinese Gymnastics Federation for their initiative and ongoing support.

Delegations participating in Shenzhen will be allowed to register up to 2 Mixed Pairs, 1 Trio, 1 Group, 1 Aerobic Dance and 1 Aerobic Step Group! No Individuals, unfortunately, because this category holds less appeal for decision makers and the media, according to Secretary General André Gueisbuhler.

Since its first World Championships at the Stade Coubertin in Paris in 1995, Aerobic Gymnastics has pursued lasting development, building on a very solid foundation. It has every reason to aspire to large-scale multi-sport events, and the Universiade of Shenzhen next year just might be a first step in the right direction.
