The five IOC recognized sports retained 'to be studied in further detail in the context of the revision process of the Olympic Program 2016' are karate, golf, roller sports, squash and  rugby. The same sports which were brought before the 117th IOC Session in Singapore for a possible inclusion into the London 2012 program!

Baseball and softball, which currently hold Olympic status but were dropped from the London 2012 program, also aspire readmittance for 2016. This makes for a total of seven sports still vying for a berth on the Olympic Program for 2016. The final decision which one(s) will be admitted is made by the IOC Session in 2009.

Christophe Dubi, the IOC Sports Director, informed all Recognized International Federations about the outcome of a comprehensive review of their sports by his department . They all retained their status.
