The World Games Stadium is taking shape: the 55,000-capacity stadium has its metal roofing structure up already. Mayor Chen Chu led the ceremonies when the final beam was put in place on 28 March.

Construction on the imposing venue started on 28 December 2006. Exactly fifteen months later, over 60% of the work is completed, and the remaining part can easily be carried out over the next nine months.

The stadium, which covers 19 hectares, will cost US$150.6 million.

The stadium will be the world's first multi-functional stadium powered by solar energy. Its solar generators will supply 1 million kilowatts of electricity a year.
