ISF - SportAccord meetings in Athens 13 Jun 2008 00:00
International Softball Federation President, Don Porter and others representing the sport were in Greece last week at the annual SportAccord meetings. Two-time Olympic gold medal winner swimming, Donna de Varona, is a co-chair of the Back Softball Task Force which sets out recommendations for the Olympic reinstatement campaign. She was on-hand for a June 1 meeting that took place for African and European Task Force members.
The ISF president announced that Jordan Olympic Committee President, HRH Prince Feisal, agreed to join the Task Force and attended the groups meeting in Athens.
Each year SportAccord brings together meetings and members of among others the General Association of International Sports Federations Association of Summer Olympic International Federations and the International Olympic Committee Executive Board.
The sport of softball is currently on the programme of no fewer than 15 different multi-sport games. While in Athens last week the ISF president met with representatives of the World Games, which will take place next year in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, where womens softball will return to the programme for the first time since prior to its having been put on the Olympic programme.
In 2009 softball - both mens and womens - will again be contested at the World Masters Games set to take place in Sydney, Australia.
Multi-sport games still to be held this year that will have softball on the programme include the 10th World Firefighters Games, August 25-September 3 in Liverpool, England and the 1st Asian Beach Games, October 18-26, in Bali, Indonesia.
