ASOIF Council meeting reported 19 Mar 2008 15:59
Dear Members,
The ASOIF Council met on 17 March in Lausanne at the ASOIF HQ for its first meeting of the year. The main items discussed were of the Olympic Games Beijing 2008 issues, ASOIF financial revue, the Olympic Games revenue distribution, and the preparation of the agenda for the 2008 General Assembly that will be held in Athens on 3 June 2008, in conjunction with SportAccord. A dinner on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of ASOIF will also be held in Athens on Monday, 2 June. An official invitation will follow to our members in due course.
A status report was made by the IOC’s Sports Director, Christophe Dubi, concerning issues with 2008 Olympic Games, the Youth Olympic Games and the Olympic Programme.
Key items discussed and reported on included:
• Olympic Congress 2009: ASOIF will set up of working group to coordinate the input on behalf of all Summer Olympic Federations • ASOIF Finances: ASOIF reviewed its budget and financial position for 2009 in view of the continuing fall of the dollar • Olympic Games Ticketing Issue: ASOIF Council decided to make a proposal to IOC for criteria for the allocation of tickets amongst all the IFs for future Olympic Games after Beijing 2008. • ASOIF Strategic Plan: ASOIF Council reviewed its new Strategic Plan, 2009 – 2012 and will come up with final amendments to be presented to the General Assembly in June. • Olympic Revenue Distribution: ASOIF Council decided to more aggressively pursue the reform of the distribution of Olympic revenues and will ask for a review of the USOC revenue share • Post Beijing Games Evaluation: ASOIF Council proposed to set-up a joint questionnaire with the IOC Sports Department to save workload for our Members in a period following the Olympic Games. An ASOIF workshop will be held at the Olympic Museum with all International Federations in order to review the feedback given. Possible dates for this meeting include the 28th of October 2008. • Olympic Programme (2016): ASOIF underlined its agreement with the IOC regarding the Olympic Programme questionnaire which will be presented in a “light” format that will be sent to the IFs in December 2008.
