Dr. Tamas Ajan, who has been serving as President since 2000 was re-elected by acclamation of the delegates present from 132 countries 128 with voting rights. Dr. Ajan 70, born in Hungary, IOC member has already 39 years old history in IWF. The new secretary general of IWF is Ma Wenguang CHN.

At its first, informal meeting, the newly elected IWF Executive Board outlined the future program of the Board. Immediate tasks include the selection of members to complete the Board and the various Committees, co-ordination of the future World Championships and the publication of the Modified Constitution, Technical and Competition Rules.

Dr. Tamas Ajan HUN, President and Mr. Ma Wenguang CHN, General Secretary, the first non-European General Secretary in weightlifting history confirmed that they would work in close co-operation to the ultimate benefit of the sport of weightlifting.

The Executive Board will convene for its first official meeting in the near future.
