Sedgemoor Splash Swimming Pool has signed a five-year partnership agreement with the ASA to deliver the ASA’s National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS) and the ASA/Kellogg’s Awards Scheme.
Sedgemoor Splash Swimming Pool, which is run by Sedgemoor District Council, runs a successful swimming programme for babies, toddlers, juniors and adults and has recently increased the number of lessons it operates at the centre.
The centre will start using the NPTS fully on 20th April 2009 and hopes to then work towards an Aquamark accreditation. The changes will make it easier for swimmers moving into the area to swap into the centre’s lessons if their previous pool followed the plan. Eventually the centre will add Rookie Lifeguard and then mini-polo!. This will give swimmers three exit roots following completion of Stage 7 of the NPTS.
Ricky Hayes, Sports and Activities Coordinator at Sedgemoor Splash Swimming Pool, said: “The new National Plan for Teaching Swimming is really versatile and gives children a wide range of opportunities once they have completed the aquatic stages. Hopefully this will result in more children staying involved in aquatic sports and leading healthy lifestyles through Sedgemoor Splash.”
Bruce Learner, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at Kellogg’s, said: “Since our partnership with the ASA began in 1997, more than 13 million swimming awards have been presented to youngsters across the country, making it the most successful awards scheme in British sport. We will be celebrating this success at the Kellogg’s Swimtastic Awards in October, which recognises those pool based projects that benefit the community the most.”
