Cross Country Round-Up
04 Mar 2008 21:43
January and February saw the end of the Midland (Ladies) and Birmingham (Men's) XC Leagues with races across the region. First was 19th January 2008 (Race 3) with the ladies at Cofton Park but, with the New Year bringing a variety of injuries and illness, numbers were depleted; although we did manage a team despite half of it still recovering! Joan Clarke crossed the line first in 30.55 followed by Dawn Bishop (35.44) Ingrid Cain and Ros Elcock(39.57). Meanwhile over at Coventry (Sphinx) we had a good turn out for the men with Matt Raden completing first in 34:31, followed by Paul Durnell (35.33) Kevin Burke(35.47) Jason Corns(36.14)Andy Aston (37.13) Tony Warner(38.16) Mike Anslow(40.04) Pete Walters (40.30) and Richard Lamming (45.16). 9th February saw the final race in both leagues, and both at Gloucester. We managed to just about gather a ladies team Joan, Nikki and Ros (with Nikki still suffering from knee injury).Stourbridge Ladies finished overall 14th (dropping a couple of places on the last race-due to a mass turn out from other clubs) but still further up the league than last year, so well done to all. Thanks to Ingrid and Ian for your support and beverages!! A good turn out for the men again on the other side of Gloucester(the usual suspects) ensuring the team finished in 10th Place in their first outing in Division 2- Well done guys. Other Cross country races with Stourbridge members taking part were Worcestershire Championships (5th Jan - Droitwich) and Midland Championships (26th Jan- Leamington Spa) and finally National Championships (23rd Feb- Alton Towers).A successful season throughout with many highlights and we look forward to next years mud, mud glorious mud! Anyone interested in joining us see Andy and Ros.
