Funder Name: Awards for All

Awards for All is a grants scheme set up to assist small clubs. Grants range from £300 up to £10,000 - clubs can only receive a maximum of £10,000 in any two year period.

Aims of Awards for All are to:

• Extend access and participation

• Increase skill and creativity

• Improve quality of life

Grants must be for specific activities and cannot be used as a contribution to general running costs for current activity or to wholly benefit individuals. Communities may be geographic or of shared interest.

The trustees make a large number at £2-3,000 one off grants or they can be recurring, both for capital or revenue purposes. Make funding applications Oct – Nov as Trustees meet once a year in January or February to decide on grant applications.

Funder Name: National Sports Foundation

The National Sports Foundation (NSF) encourages the private sector to invest in local community sports projects across England. The NSF will match donations from commercial bodies and also contributions from individuals. The Government has invested £34.5m in the Foundation to attract this new investment in three key priority areas:

Fit for Sport - projects to improve both physical and human infrastructure for community clubs. This will include investing in clubs, coaches and volunteers in local communities 2012 Kids - building on the success of the Olympics, projects to encourage children and young people to take up sport; and

Women into Sport - projects to increase female participation in sport, including providing

coaching and support for female teams

Any project that benefits community sport will be considered for matchfunding.

You must be able to provide £50,001 of new sponsorship money from a commercial or private investor towards your project. For each £1 that you secure from a commercial or private sponsor, the Foundation will match it £ for £ up to the maximum cost of your project (if your application is successful). The minimum amount of sponsorship that can be matched by the NSF must be over

£50,000 and be 'new' money

Funder Name: Local Hero Awards

Barclays Spaces for Sports Local Hero Award has been created to honour the unsung heroes who work endlessly to support grass roots sport in the communities across the UK. Deserving recipients could be anyone from a long-standing groundsman to a coach who has worked tirelessly to develop players or someone who drives the minibus or who has made the team's sandwiches for years! In recognition of their efforts Barclays will present to each winner a limited edition silver medal and a donation of £1000 to the team or charity of their choice.

If you would like to vote for someone you feel really deserves a Barclays Spaces for Sports

Local Hero Award, print off the nomination form from the website address below, and

return to the address provided. All entries will be judged by the official Barclays Spaces for Sports panel, which comprises of representatives from the Football Foundation and Groundwork.

Funder Name: Sport England - Community Investment Fund

Potential projects will need to contribute to increasing current levels of sports participation and will help retain sports participants or encourage volunteers to stay involved in sport. All applications should address one or all of the following:

• Demonstrate clear strategic need

• Help to address and target need, particularly dealing with issues relating to inequalities

• Show how it will increase participation

• Promote and develop performance

The Regional Plan has four strategic themes:

• Delivering community sport - multi-sport hub clubs, community co-ordinators, coaching and integrated facilities.

• Encouraging active living - active travel, active workplaces, alternative school day

and use of natural environment

• Influencing strategic planning - integrated regional strategies

• Raising sports profile - high profile events, media campaigns sports tourism and

research based evidence

Awards are unlikely to be made for over £250,000. Partnership funding should aim to be 2:1. It is very important to contact the county's Sport Partnership before submitting an application. Funder Name: SportsAid -Creating Champions in the Community

Creating Champions in the Community is a unique scheme, which aims to encourage and give direct financial support to thousands of sporting youngsters across the British Isles in partnership with Rotary Clubs. It is hoped that each of these independent Rotary Clubs will individually elect to participate in the scheme and with SportsAid's help will identify and support a blossoming talent in it's locale. To qualify for a Champions in the Community grant, youngsters must:

* Be local to a participating Rotary Club

* Have a genuine sporting ability

* be able to show an existing personal commitment to developing their talent

* Be in genuine need of financial assistance for their support.

Priority will be given to youngsters who do not already receive a SportsAid grant.

Those in receipt of National Lottery Funds are not eligible for funding.

Funder Name: SportsAid, the Charity for Sport

SportsAid is an independent national charity established to encourage both young and disabled talent in sport nationwide. SportsAid focuses on providing funding at grass-roots level, where talented youngsters may not qualify for lottery funding. The main aims of the charity are:

• to further educate young people through the medium of sport

• to encourage those with social or physical disadvantages to improve their lives through sport.

SportsAid encourages young people from all walks of life to experience the benefits of sport. The charity strives to ensure that talent is not wasted and addresses the balance between talent and need. It actively supports socially, physically and environmentally disadvantaged people in 55 able bodied and 25 disabled sports. The charity gives financial aid in the form of an annual grant to help offset the high costs of training, travel and equipment. SportsAid does not just support individual talent, but has also implemented a number of community initiatives.

There are 2 types of grant available:

- National grants of £500 per year.

- Regional grants of £250 per year.

The 2 main criteria for a SportsAid grant are talent and need. However, applicants must be between 12 and 18 years although disabled competitors up to 25 will be considered and those over 25 who are new to sport and show strong potential. Those applying must show a genuine financial need (ie. not in receipt of a National Lottery World Class Performance grant) and be a member of a National squad. In order to be considered for SportsAid funding you need to be nominated by an appropriate National Governing Body of Sport.

Funder Name: Sportsmatch

Sportsmatch is the government's grass roots sports sponsorship incentive scheme. It is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport through grant aid from Sport England and administered by the Institute of Sports Sponsorship. It aims to encourage businesses to invest in grass roots sports to increase participation and improve skills. Sportsmatch can fund £ for £ commercial business sponsorship for a sporting event or activity. Matching awards are available for a minimum of £500 for schools and colleges and £1,000 for all other organisations and anything up to £50,000. There must only be a maximum of 3 sponsors per project. Sponsorship can last between 1 and 3 years for any 1 project and can be in cash or in kind (in kind sponsorship must be in the form of sporting equipment only).

Bids will be strengthened if the project targets one or more of the following priority groups:

women and girls, ethnic minorities, disability groups, schools, areas of recreational deprivation and youth. Projects should aim to include one or more of the following elements: Increased participation at grass roots; Improving skills; New activities or expanding/enhancing existing activities; Providing links to the local community; Ensuring long term benefits. Projects can be capital or revenue and include coaching, competition, equipment, facility hire and publicity but priority will be given to revenue projects. Any 'not for profit' groups can apply such as sports clubs, schools/colleges, charities, local authorities or voluntary groups.

Funder Name: Tesco Community Awards

Tesco Charity Trust helps local and national charities as well as voluntary organisations to provide practical support for children, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Charity initiatives include community awards and donations through:

1. Tesco Charity Trust

2. Local Community Sponsorship

3. Community Vouchers

4. Staff fundraising.

The majority of appeals from local community charities are handled through the Tesco Charity Trust Community Award Scheme. This scheme distributes some £350,000 each year to charities in communities local to Tesco stores. Community Awards benefit charities that deliver practical benefits to children’s welfare, children’s education, the welfare of elderly people and people with disabilities. Donations generally range between £1,500 and £5,000. The Trust adds 20% to all approved fundraising carried out by Tesco staff in respect of charities or the community.

Application deadlines for Community Awards:

31 January each year - Charities concerned with children’s welfare and education.

30 June each year - Charities concerned with the elderly and people with disabilities.

Tesco Community Gift Vouchers - Each Tesco store holds a number of Community Gift Vouchers to support local groups requiring support for their fundraising events, such as raffle prizes. Charities should apply in writing to the Customer Service Manager at their local Tesco store. Requests for over £50 should be directed to Tesco House.

Funder Name: Woolworths Kids First

Woolworths Kids First is an independent registered charity established by Woolworths plc and launched in June 1999. It enables Woolworths' employees in stores and offices to support community-based projects of their choice to benefit children. Involvement in the scheme is voluntary with responsibility taken at a local level for each initiative. They support individual children, children's hospices, Homestart schemes, schools/education establishments, users of disability aids and children's sports clubs and teams. Woolworths Kids First aims to increase its fundraising activities substantially by 2005, with an annual fundraising target of £10 million. This will be achieved through a variety of key initiatives including on-the-ground fundraising activities, high-profile celebrity events and sponsorship programmes.
