Tribute to Bryan Craddock
29 Apr 2008 16:19

Sportspeople in Worcestershire are mourning the death of Bryan Craddock, a Black Country man who devoted his life to helping young swimmers.

Bryan lost his battle with lung and liver cancer at Russells Hall Hospital on 19th April, aged 77. His funeral took place on 29th April at Holy Trinity Church, Wordsley.

Bryan became involved in swimming after taking his two sons to Stourbridge Swimming Club in the early 1970s. Both boys rose to the top of the sport by becoming county champions and competing at national level, while Bryan became involved in running the club's training sessions.

Bryan became President of Worcester County SA in 1992, after playing a leading role for over 25 years in coaching and administration at Stourbridge Swimming Club. The Bryan Craddock Trophy is awarded each year to the top male swimmer at the County Championships.

His widow, Olywn, also involved in swimming teaching for many years, said: 'Bryan always tried to help whatever organisation he was involved in and keep young people involved in sport.'

Lesley Hill, Regional Director, has fond memories of Bryan during her swimming days with the club.
