WIRRAL women sprung a major shock in the Women's North of England Premier League at the weekend with a fine victory over Timperley, the defending champions.
The hosts clinched a 9-8 home win on Saturday for arguably their biggest win in the women's competition.
And with victory have now put their own title challenge back on track after defeats to Stockport and Heaton Mersey in recent weeks.
Mersey, former Premier League winners, were pushed hard at home to Mellor, but the Oakley Villas ladies held on for a battling 10-7 win to keep their title hopes alive.
Stockport were also victorious, 9-3 winners away to Birmingham in their Premier League clash at the weekend.
Brooklands Hulmeians bounced back from their 20-3 loss to Stockport the previous weekend to beat Timperley B 8-5 at home.
Leeds registered their third win of the season, this time at the expense of Liverpool whom they beat 11-4.
In the only other domestic fixture Wilmslow impressed with a 14-3 victory over new club Sheffield Steelers.
