England Vs Japan

Thursday 3rd July 2008

England got off to a great start to their U19 World Championship campaign with a convincing 24-5 win. The team played a great game dominating the face offs to give them the possession on which to build their attacks. Goalie Ant Hayes scored the first goal of the 2008 World Championship running the full length of the field to score.

The feature of the game was the quality of the goals with the attack zipping the ball and moving the Japanese defense to score some great team goals. This unselfish team work with the extra ball movement led to quality goals. Eleven players got on the score sheet, demonstrating the team effort produced throughout the game.

The team played a solid game in defence clearing the ball effectively, allowing the attack to set up with ease. Both golies saw time in the cage, with Ant Hayes and Dan Grime making a number of good saves.

The coaching staff was encouraged by the effort and application in the first game. The team now look forward to playing the host nation Canada today at 7:15pm local time.
