ENGLAND V’s AUSTRALIA

England defeat Aussies 12 – 11

In a nerve racking game for the English fans the U19 team defeated Australia 12-11.England took a commanding 4-0 lead in the first quarter only to be pegged back to 5-4 at the end of the second quarter due in the main to penalties which the Aussies took advantage of.

The third quarter saw the Aussies take control winning this 4 -1. The final quarter saw the England team show great character coming from behind to win the game, with the winning goal scored by Sam Russell with 22 seconds remaining.

Ant Hayes in goal led the way with a superb performance inspiring the team to a superb all round team performance. Again the goals were spread around but more importantly all the players in different areas of the field made important and valuable contributions to this team win.

The coaching staff deserves great credit for their management of the players and the game strategy.

Great job well done!
