TIMPERLEY remain unbeaten team in the Women's North of England Premier League, but the defending champions were taken the distance by arch-rivals Stockport at the weekend.
Both sides were forced to settle for a 12-12 draw at Stockport Road, but the draw points were enough for Timperley to maintain a slender one point lead at the top of the table.
Heaton Mersey, last year's runners-up, would have like to have made up some welcome ground on Timperley, but they were forced to cling on for a draw away to Birmingham.
Mersey played the whole match with ten players with a number of their squad injured and missing because of holiday or wedding commitments.
However plenty of credit must go to Birmingham as they dug deep to make sure of a draw against one of the 'big four' sides.
Wirral are second after registering their third win in four outings, this time at home to Liverpool in a one-sided Merseyside derby.
The hosts eased to an impressive 21-4 victory to maintain the pressure on Timperley at the summit.
Mersey are third on eight points, while Stockport are third, but the Beech Road ladies have played one game less than three of the top four sides.
Mellor claimed their first win of the season with a 12-3 victory away to Wilmslow, while Brooklands Hulmeians batted admirably at home to Leeds, but it was the Yorkshire side who came away with a 12-4 win on their visit to George's Road.
Timperley B had plenty to smile about with their first win of the season on Saturday. The club's B-string clinched an 8-5 victory over Sheffield Steelers.
This Saturday will see Timperley B face the club's first team, while Mersey host Steelers and Stockport are at home to Wilmslow.
Leeds entertain Birmingham, their opponents boosted by a hard-fought draw with Mersey, with Mellor at home to high-flying Wirral.
Liverpool face Brooklands Hulmeians at home as they go in search of their third win of the season.
