23 Oct 2009 18:58

By Neil Goulding (English Lacrosse Press Officer, 07813 859986)

TWO teams share top spot in the Women's North of England Premier League after six rounds of matches.

Both clubs have won four and drawn one of their fixtures, with one round of matches against Sheffield Steelers or Newcastle counting as a friendly fixture.

Timperley, the defending champions, beat newcomers Sheffield Steelers 15-0, but the result does not count towards the final standings because the match is classed as a friendly.

But Stockport's 10-7 victory over Wirral does count at the Beech Road club kept the pressure up on the leaders.

Heaton Mersey, former winners and who finished second last season, were also victorious. Mersey whitewashed Leeds 14-0, but are fifth in the table having played a game less than either of their arch-rivals.

Despite defeat Wirral are third in the table with three wins and draw from their six matches so far.

Timperley's second string impressed with a 20-6 victory over Wilmslow, while Mellor beat Brooklands Hulmeians 13-1.

This weekend will see Timperley's first team host Wilmslow at Stockport Road, while fellow title-chasers Stockport are at home to Hulmeians.
