SALLIE Barker, Chair of the Women's Playing Committee has welcomed Lois Richardson's desire to continue in her role as the national head coach.
Richardson guided England's women to a bronze medal at the World Cup in Annapolis last summer, and has been on the team's coaching staff for a number of years.
But in order for good governance to take place, Barker is also keen for the head coach's position to be advertised, as well as a number of other vacancies currently available on the WPC.
"Every four years we have a process where we can receive applications for the head coach's position. We must do that for good governance," said Barker.
"It's great Lois wants to coach the team at the next World Cup, but it wouldn't be fair if we didn't give other coaches the chance to apply for the position. We are always looking for new talent in all areas - it can only benefit the women's game."
As well as looking ahead to the 2009 World Cup, Barker is a firm believer that the WPC and England must look to future events and find coaches who will eventually continue the good work Richardson and the rest of her team have done in recent years.
Barker says she would like to hear from any coach who aspires to work with the England Squad.
She added: "We would encourage any potential coaches to come forward because they could work alongside Lois for the benefit of the England team."
Following the England team's success in the 2005 Women’s World Cup, the WPC are eager to enhance the women’s game.
The committee is excited to announce a handful of volunteer positions they hope will push the game forward in preparation for the 2009 Women’s World Cup - and beyond.
The following positions are available:|
Women’s Playing Committee Treasurer
Chair of the Team Preparation Committee – responsible for recruitment of all National Squad positions including Head Coach, Manager and Physio, as well as selection of the National Squad, both at Under-19 and senior level.
"We'd like to get as much help as we can," confirmed Barker. "We are trying to find people who want to help the development of the women's game and help the game grow and grow."
