First Weekend of BAGCAT Championships

The first weekend of the Regional BAGCAT Championships took place at the UEA Sportspark in Norwich on 7th & 8th June.  Boys aged 10-14 years and girls aged 10-13 years competed over a range of events, with more to be swum on the second weekend of the Championships on 14th & 15th June.

In the boy’s 10 year’s, Philip Dowding-Young (teamipswich) is currently leading the overall BAGCAT points, with Bobbie McCarthy (Thurrock SC) and Nico Campbell (Cheshunt SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  Dowding-Jones won the 200m Freestyle, 100m Backstroke and 200m IM.  Jake Tyson (teamipswich) won the 100m Freestyle and the 400m Freestyle.

The girl’s 10 year’s category is being led by Alice Hewson (Berkhamstead Barracudas SC) with Lucy Allington (Lowestoft & Oulton Broad SC) and Rachael Moore (Thurrock SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  Hewson won the 200m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly and 400m IM at the weekend, with Allington winning the 200m Breaststroke and 800m Freestyle.  Hannah Vick (King’s Lynn SC) won the 100m Breaststroke and Gemma Faulkner (UEA City of Norwich SC) won the 200m Butterfly.

The boy’s 11 year’s are currently led by Barton Townley (Runnymede SC) with Robbie Lightowler (City of St Albans SC) and Frederick Woodcock (Hemel Hempstead SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  Townley won the 200m IM and 100m Backstroke, Woodcock won the 400m Freestyle and Jarrod Bradfield (Clacton on Sea SC) won the 100m Freestyle and the 200m Freestyle.

The girl’s 11 year’s age group is being led by Katherine Stephens (Thurrock SC) with Molly Norman (City of Peterborough SC) and Amy Gore (Thurrock SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  This age group saw many girls winning individual events – Gore winning the 20m Breaststroke and 400m IM, Stephens won the 800m Freestyle, Alice Oakley (UEA City of Norwich SC) won the 200m Backstroke, Ellie Pirrie (Runnymede SC) won the 100m Butterfly and 200m Butterfly and Emily McConnell (Mid Beds Swim Squad) won the 100m Breaststroke.

The boy’s 12 year’s age group is led by Caleb Hughes (Mid Beds Swim Squad), who won all 6 individual events.  Matthew Brigham (City of Peterborough SC) and Harry Smith (UEA City of Norwich SC) are currently in 2nd and 3rd places in the BAGCAT standings.

The girl’s 12 year’s age group is led by Charlotte Hicks (St Felix School) with Poppy Ingleson (UEA City of Norwich SC) and Izzy Faulkner (UEA City of Norwich SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  Hicks won the 800m Freestyle, 400m IM and 200m Butterfly.  Ingleson won the 200m Backstroke, Zara Bailey (City of Peterborough SC) won the 100m and 200m Breaststroke and Amelia Knowles (Southend –on-Sea SC) won the 100m Butterfly.

The boy’s 13 year’s age group is currently led by Luke Bailey of St Felix School SC, with Liam Knight (City of Peterborough SC) and Lewis Hughes (UEA City of Norwich SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  Bailey won the 100m, 200m, 400m and 800m Freestyle events, Miles Garner (UEA City of Norwich SC) won the 200m IM and Elliot Cook (teamipswich) won the 100m Backstroke.

The girl’s 13 year’s are being led by Ellis Jackson (St Felix School) with Alexandra Taylor (West Suffolk SC) and Heather Rodwell (teamipswich) in 2nd and 3rd.  Jackson took victories in the 200m Backstroke, 100m Butterfly, 400m IM, 100m Breaststroke and 200m Butterfly.  Rodwell won the 200m Breaststroke and Pascale Reeves (St Felix School) won the 800m Freestyle.

The boy’s 14 year’s age group sees Aaron Lynch (teamipswich) as the early leader overall, with David Kelleway (Bishop’s Stortford SC) and Samuel Briggs (Modernians SC) in 2nd and 3rd.  Lynch won the 100m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle and 200m IM.  Kelleway won the 100m Backstroke with Jack Hollis (teamipswich) winning the 400m Freestyle and Alex Raine (Mid Beds Swim Squad) winning the 800m Freestyle.

The team events saw wins for teamipswich in the boys 11-14 year’s 4 x 100m and 4 x 200m Freestyle relays, with the girls from UEA City of Norwich SC coming out on top in the 11-13 year’s 4 x 100m Freestyle relay.
