Gold Medal Winners Watford with East Region President Sheila Mackenzie
The ASA East Region Water Polo Youth Summer Cup Final was held in Chelmsford on 27th September, with four teams competing for the trophy.
Basildon, Deben, Ipswich and Watford all played out a round robin series of games with players aged 14 and under playing each other for the Summer Cup.
Basildon played Deben in the first game and secured a 7-0 victory. Watford then beat Ipswich 3-0. Basildon won their next game 3-2 against Ipswich and Watford beat a young Deben team 9-0. After the first four games of the tournament, Watford and Basildon faced each other, both with two wins already under their belts, in what was effectively the Championship decider. It was a very close match, eventually won by a penalty in the last two minutes of the game from Watford, who won 2-1. The final match of the tournament, between Deben and Ipswich, would decide who won the bronze medals. Both teams worked hard in possession, and the goalkeepers pulled off some fine saves. The Ipswich team came through to win 3-1, with Deben scoring their first goal of the tournament.
After the tournament, ASA East Region President Sheila Mackenzie presented the medals to the teams.
