ASA East Region show good promise at championships
25 Jan 2010 21:02

Over the weekend of the 23rd and 24th January the team took played in the division 2 tournament which saw them play four games over the two days.

Day 1:

The team took on Wales in the first match. The team were understandable nervous and naive in this match which was the first ever planned by a regional team and they found themselves 4:1 down at half time. Their first goal they them confidence and they went on to record a final score of 11:6.

The second match saw the team play the South West region. This was a much closer game, including giving away a silly penalty (bench error) and not converting a penalty, but eventually the team lost 11:9.

Day 2:

Third match was against West Midland (B). This they won 17:0 with some good team play. The game showed the team’s promise and how far they had come with their training.

One hour later saw their last pool match against London. They started well matching London 2:2 early in the second quarter, when the programme started to take its’ toll on the team.  London started to pull away eventually wining 9:4.

London went on to eventually win the tournament and therefore promotion to Division 1 for next season.

The East Region finished the tournament in 4th (London 1st, South West 2nd, Wales 3rd). Throughout the tournament the team were competitive and the boys showed their commitment and enthusiasm as well as learning a great deal from such an event.

The team would like to thank all the supporters  and coach Nik who did an outstanding job throughout.
