Team Luton “Two’s Company”
13 Feb 2010 22:24

The committees of Luton Swimming Club and Lewsey Centre Swimming Club have been working together over the last six months to enable the formation of the combined club. The plan is for the new club to be formed on the 1st May 2010.

The two Head Coaches, Pete Woodbridge (LSC) and Jane Bowen (LCSC) have already undertaken the huge task of combining the personal best swimming times of each of the 250 swimmers  involved and are in the process of developing a coaching structure to cater for all swimmers.

Some swimmers from both clubs have already competed in Galas for both clubs as well as training together.  Using the combined water time will enhance the training available to all concerned.

Pete Woodbridge  Head Coach ,  Luton Swimming Club ,

This is an exciting opportunity to increase participation in the sport of competitive swimming in Luton and the surrounding area. With the swimming talent in both clubs and the combined resources of the coaching teams we will be able to maximise the ability of our athletes guiding them to high achievement in the sport.”

Jane Bowen  Head Coach , Lewsey Centre Swimming Club ,

Its an exciting time for swimmers to have more opportunities available to reach their own goals.  The coaching team will also benefit hugely from combining their knowledge and experience for the benefit of all members.”

Gary Jesson  Vice Chairman , Luton Swimming Club ,

“This will be a fantastic opportunity to create a new and exciting competitive swimming club for the town and all those that participate in swimming. Combining the resources of the two clubs will make the club the largest in the area with good amounts of water time, the most qualified coaches and well over 250 members. It will create a strong club that will be well placed to use the facilities of the new aquatic centre when it opens in 2012. We hope others will want to join us and be part of our success.”

Dave Parcell-Jones   Chairman   Lewsey Centre Swimming Club ,

“The amalgamation of the two clubs is an exciting time for everyone involved. The pooling of resources will provide a wider range of learning facilities.

We hope it will produce a large diverse club, fit for the 21st century that the whole of Luton can be proud of. “

Garth McKenzie   Committee Member , Lewsey Centre Swimming Club ,

This will improve the level of swimming to all our members and we will do all we can to support the rising stars particularly giving extra support to those that need it the most.”
