Record Breaking Regional Masters Championships
07 Oct 2009 19:14

The third ASA East Region Open Masters & 18-24 Age Group Championships took place on 3rd October 2009 at the new pool at Newmarket.  These fine facilities saw a full day of excellent swimming with competitors travelling from all over the country and with one swimmer making the journey from Sweden.  The East Region President, Shelia Mackenzie, assisted by the Cambridgeshire President Cliff Smith, was on hand to present the medals to those swimmers breaking records and with an incredible 23 East Region and 3 Scottish records being broken she was kept extremely busy.  Maggie Smith of City of Oxford broke the Scottish records in the 400 free, 100 fly and 50 fly.  The oldest competitor, Donald Macfarlane from West Norfolk, was in fine form breaking four East Region records in the 80/84 year age group while at the opposite end of the age range the youngest swimmer, at 18 years, Louise Bush from UEA City of Norwich, was a triple record breaker. Hannah Ueckermann of Witham Dolphins and Alan Jackson of Beavers Masters Bedford also broke three records each.  Double record breakers were Christine Ayers, South Beds and Paul Morris, Clacton on Sea.  Other record breakers were Basil Gell, Victoria Barker, Laura Healey, Rachel Jones, Louise Jarvis and Ashley Buck.
