The UK's largest single Water Polo event is happening again this year at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham.
The East Midlands Open Water Tournament (formerly the South Derbyshire Water Polo Tournament) is in its sixth year. Last year the event attracted 44 teams, more than 100 matches were played and new Mens (Avondale) and Womens (Penguin) teams were crowned tournament champions.
The tournament will be going ahead on the 20-22 June at the National Water Sports Centre on the outskirts of Nottingham on their 270 acre site with teams camping in the commercial campsite or using the Centres accomodation.
The matches will be held in the main competition lake and the camping and entertainment will be in the "team" area of the on-site commercial camp site. There will be catering provided at both the competition and camping areas and a full entertainment program on the Friday and Saturday nights in the camping area.
Friday night there will be a disco and hot food and on Saturday night, a BIG Tournament party, hot food and BBQ.
In 2007 28 mens and 16 womens teams competed, this year 50+ are anticipated.
Each team will play at least five matches, additional pitches are being installed to accomodate the 120+ matches that will be played.
The tournament is played on a friendly, social basis with the emphasis being on having a good time and enjoying some polo.Photographs from previous years events can be found at
