City of Newcastle swimmer James Welford has been selected by the Youth Sport Trust as one of only four 'Young Ambassadors of Sport' to attend the Beijing Olympic Games from Great Britain.

 James is the only young person from the north of England to be selected, and had to undertake a rigorous selection process, which included an interview in London.  James was selected on the basis of his performance as an athlete, his leadership, debating and presentation skills.
