DIVERS SIGN OFF FROM SUCCESSFUL EUROPEAN JUNIORS
30 Jun 2008 09:22

Chris Mears sealed his first silver medal with an impressive performance in the boys 1m Springboard and became the first ever British diver to win a medal on every board at a European Junior Championships.

Southampton Diving's Mears put in a consistent performance to win his medal with a total score of 403.45. He was beaten to the gold by Belarus’ Andrey Pawluk who scored 417.65.

The bronze medal went to Russia’s Sergey Zhdanov with a score of 402.70.

The junior divers competing in Minsk exceeded medal predictions with their impressive performances to win five medals and finished third in the medal table. This performance has meant they are the most successful European Junior diving squad ever.

All athletes have worked through the British Diving Junior Talent or Olympic programmes (youth programmes) and overall 72% of divers made it into the top eight in their event.
