Nine-year-old Luke Kennedy made the second day of the ASA National Age Group Diving Championships in Leeds as successful as the first as he took gold in the Boys Group E 1m, to add to his 3m title from yesterday.
His programme, which included a forward one and a half somersault in tucked position, gave him a score of 108.65, well ahead of his Southampton DA competitors, silver medal winner Brandon Foster (88.75) and bronze medallist William Osborne (87.45).
In the Girls Group E 1m event Abbey Douglas was able to overhaul her Plymouth Diving team-mates with a score of 88.95 to add the gold medal to the silver she secured yesterday in the 3m.
Charlie Wood of Plymouth Diving put in an impressive display to finish nearly 25 points of his nearest rival in the Boys Group A Platform. Wood’s sixth dive, an inward two and half somersault in tucked position, scored 51.30 with the judges and put him out of reach of the rest of the field.
In the Girls Group D 3m Katherine Torrance edged out her Crystal Palace team-mates. Going into the last of her five dives, only half a point separated her and second-place Martha Crow but her final dive, an inward one and a half somersault in tucked position, took her into first place with an overall score of 164.45. Crow finished with 163.00 with Ella Frame taking third place with 160.85.
City of Leeds’ Megan Alikhanizadeh took gold in the 27-strong field in the Girls Group B 1m 238.20, while in the Girls Group C Jessica Mitchell (Crystal Palace DC) 36-strong field with a score of 205.25.
