Visitors to this year’s Leisure Industry Week (LIW) – from the 23rd to 25th September – will be able to see for the first time how the new Rainbow Stroke Awards fit in with the asa’s National Plan for Teaching Swimming (NPTS).
The NPTS aims to give swimmers the chance to experience the full range of aquatic disciplines and ultimately make them more effective in the water.
The asa, the national governing body for swimming, will be showcasing the Rainbow Stroke Awards in the commercial pool and spa zone as part of the daily schedule of activities.
The Rainbow Stroke Awards are used to encourage good stroke standards, which are an integral part of the NPTS and ultimately lead to safer swimmers.
Awards to celebrate the achievement of good stroke standards are available for Front Crawl, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly in distances between 5m-100m; all of which have been introduced following feedback from the industry.
With the success of the NPTS pool demonstrations at last year’s LIW, the asa will be joined this year by the experts in their field to deliver Aquafun, Flip and Fun and mini-polo! For specific details please visit the LIW website www.liw.co.uk to view the pool timetable.
the asa’s Business Development Team will be on hand throughout the three-day event (from the 23rd – 25th September) at its stand 2234 to answer queries and give expert advice on the NPTS resources and all of the asa’s other products and services.
Mandy Mason, the asa’s business development team manager, said: “'Our aim during the three days is to show organisations how they can make the most of their swimming programmes and further develop their staff.
“We want to help commercial pool professionals be more effective and efficient in their day-to-day roles, while also teaching the nation to swim because it is the only sport that can save your life.”
LIW will also be the first chance many will have to see the new Swim A Song Parent’s Pack produced by Total Swimming. Total Swimming has been working with the asa and designers of children’s toys to update the parent’s pack and produce a new finished product that provides an effective teaching aid for adults to use with their own children from birth.
The new pack, which was officially launched on 1st September, will include as before a CD of 32 songs and explanatory booklet but now also a sticker Sheet & progress chart (previously sold separately) and a towel (a new product).
Leisure centres who purchase Swim A Song from the asa will receive a discount on the RRP. The new parent’s packs will be available to order from stand 2234 at LIW, along with the Swim A Song Teacher’s Pack and the NPTS resources.
Other products/schemes being demonstrated at LIW include Rookie Lifeguards (in conjunction with the Royal Life Saving Society), Mini polo, Flip and fun, Aqua fun/synchro Aqua circuits, and Aqua jogging/aqua fit-healthy living.
