World Games 2009 Test Events, Kaohsiung (TPE)

KAOHSIUNG (TPE) FIG Office, October 31, 2008: This weekend, spectators will get a chance to witness an impressive line-up of trampoline and acrobatic gymnasts in the Kaohsiung Arena, where competitions will begin Saturday with Tumbling events.

A few last minute changes were made to the entry lists of this weekend’s gymnastic events, but the champions registered for the event are here in Kaohsiung, ready to show their skill in breathtaking exercises. Among these, tumbler Anna Korobeynikova from Russia, World Champion in 2007 and 2005 and winner of the 9th World Cup Final last month in Togliatti (RUS). Once again, Korobeynikova will be challenged by Ukrainian Olena Chabalenolo, Silver winner in Quebec and 6th in Togliatti.

Andrey Krylov (RUS) is in a class all his own when it comes to Men’s Tumbling. At his first major competition, the 25th World Championships in Quebec in 2007, he stunned the crowd with extremely difficult, sky-scraping exercises and was rewarded with standing ovations. Krylov went on to crown his success with a Gold in Togliatti 2008, but in Kaohsiung he’ll have to keep an eye on his competition, Ukrainian Yuriy Freyuk, finalist at the 2007 World Championships and 4th at the World Cup in Publier-Amphion (FRA). Furthermore, France and South Africa have sent their best tumblers to the World Games 2009 Test Events, making this an interesting competition across the board.

Spectators will have an opportunity to get a glimpse at a full range of acrobatic disciplines over the course of this weekend. Gymnasts from Ukraine, Russia and South Africa will perform in tomorrow’s Men’s Group, Women’s Pair and Mixed Pair competition, saving the Men’s Pair and Women’s Group competitions for Sunday.

Start Lists  Acrobatics

Female trampolinists from Japan, Portugal, Russia and Ukraine will perform in tomorrow’s Synchro event. Contrary to Individual Trampoline, this discipline is non-Olympic and first appeared on the World Games programme in 1989 in Karlsruhe (GER).
