SIR CRAIG REEDIE BRINGS OLYMPIC PERSPECTIVE TO SPORTS EVENT MANAGEMENT ’09

International Olympic Committee member Sir Craig Reedie is to deliver the closing keynote address at Sports Event Management ’09, the ultimate conference and networking event for event sector professionals, at The Shaw Theatre, London, on November 10, 2009.

Sir Craig, who was part of the IOC Co-ordination Committee for the Athens and Beijing Olympic Games and is a member of the committee evaluating bids to stage forthcoming Games will reflect on the vital and changing role played by the event management community and examine the impact of the processes and procedures introduced by the IOC to govern the selection of host cities.

He joins the strongest-ever line-up of speakers for the Sports Event Management Conference and Exhibition which is now in its fourth year.

London 2012 Organising Committee CEO Paul Deighton will deliver the introductory keynote address.

Deighton, who is making his third appearance at the event, will reflect on the progress made by the Organising Committee and look ahead to the challenges to be faced and milestones to achieve in the months ahead.

Rob Holt, Chief Executive of the 2010 Ryder Cup Wales and Tim Shaw, European Sales Director of the PGA European Tour and Ryder Cup Europe will deliver a case study on the 2010 Ryder Cup.

Elsewhere on the programme, three of the event world’s best-respected thought-leaders will deliver their unique insights into ways of measuring the value of hosting major sports events.

Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Secretary General of the progressive and ambitious Qatar Olympic Committee will join Dan Jones, Head of the Sport Business Group at Deloitte and Lars Lundov, Chief Executive of Sport Event Denmark, for a session which will identify and assess ways of engaging the true economic and social benefit of event hosting.

Also joining the speaker line-up is Francis Tellier, of Infront Sports & Media and Head of Host Broadcast Services which will be responsible for broadcast output from next year's FIFA World Cup in South Africa.   At Sports Event Management 2009 he will look at the changing role of Host Broadcasters and the areas in which they add value, with particular reference to the FIFA World Cup.  The session is one of the many highlights of a day packed with high-level contributors who help shape the fast-changing world of major sports events.

Among the other subjects tackled in a wide-ranging programme are; Security - The Ever Evolving Threat; Events and Technology; Major Event Promotion and Events and Brands.

In addition, the programme features specific case studies focusing on FIFA World Cup 2010, The Ryder Cup 2010, and the Vancouver Winter Olympic Games.

Nigel Rushman, Chairman of organisers Rushmans said:  “The world of sports event management is changing so fast it can be hard to keep up.  And nobody understands that better than your fellow event professionals.

“The conference brings fresh thinking and exclusive insight to the major issues and opportunities facing the events sector and enables you to meet and share the experience of the people responsible for delivering many of the most challenging and demanding projects in world sport today.”
