LAUSANNE, Switzerland – With a big thank-you to our wonderful hosts in Denver for the resounding success of Sportaccord 2009, we now look ahead to the eighth annual edition of the convention, which will take place from April 26-30, 2010 in Dubai. It will be the first time the international sports convention is held in the Middle East. HRH Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, who is the president of the international Equestrian Federation, extended the Dubai royal family’s invitation to Sportaccord 2010 via video to delegates in Denver.
Sportaccord 2009, hosted by the Metro Denver Sports Commission, drew 1,500 delegates from 500 organisations around the world and set new standards for the annual event. Conference high points included fascinating interviews with CNN founder Ted Turner and NBC Universal Sports Chairman Dick Ebersol, a frank analysis of team investment by Liverpool F.C. owner George Gillett and scintillating exchanges in the Big Leagues & Federations “summit” panel featuring top brass from the NBA, NHL and the international governing bodies of ice hockey and basketball – plus presentations by the Candidate Cities for the 2016 Olympic Summer Games.
Sportaccord 2009 was more entertaining than ever before too. Earth Wind & Fire performed at the opening ceremony and every delegate was an invited guest at an NHL game between the Colorado Avalanche and Anaheim Ducks.
Sportaccord introduced a new daily publication during the 2009 event. Delivered to delegates early every morning, it covered the breaking news of the important meetings and conference sessions in eye-catching style. The upgraded Sportaccord TV featured live conference coverage on plasma screens throughout the venue and exclusive interviews with VIP delegates.
Every year Sportaccord Week features a dynamic exhibition, numerous networking receptions and top-level conference sessions, including the City Forum, as well as the annual general meetings of the Sports Governing Bodies.
