The NACAC Race Walking Committee held its first meeting on 9 March in Naucalpan, Mexico, immediately prior to the start of the initial IAAF Race Walking Challenge event of the year.  Presiding was Gary Westerfield, chairman.  Attendees included Carlos Barrios (GUA), Ron Daniel (USA), Jorge González (ESA), Carlos Mercenario (MEX), Gabriel Roldán (MEX) and Cándido Vélez (PUR).  Several working groups were established and individual members tasked with the responsibility for moving forward in these areas.  Westerfield noted that most of the efforts of the committee would be conducted over the electronic media and advised that a web page, www.nacac-rw.org  had already been established. The Committee committed itself to work hard to increase race walking in our area and agreed to meet at future venues where race walking competitions are being held.

El Comité de Marcha de NACAC celebró su primera reunión el día 9 de marzo en la ciudad de Naucalpán, México en vísperas de la realización de la primera etapa de la IAAF Race Walking Challenge.  La reunión fue presidida por Gary Westerfield y contó con la participación de Carlos Barrios (GUA), Ron Daniel (USA), Jorge González (ESA), Carlos Mercenario (MEX), Gabriel Roldán (MEX) y Cándido Vélez (PUR). Se establecieron varios grupos de trabajo, asignando la responsabilidad para los distintos asuntos discutidos entre los participantes.  Westerfield anotó que la mayor parte de la comunicación del Comité se realizará mediante los medios electrónicos, señalando que ya tienen una página en la internet, www.nacac-rw.org donde se podrá colocar materias de interés común.  Los integrantes del Comité se comprometieron a trabajar duramente para incrementar la marcha en nuestra Área acordándose que se reunirán en aquellas ocasiones cuando se celebren competencias de marcha en el hemisferio.
