At the Carifta Congress held in Providenciales, Turks and Caicos last month, three Members indicated interest in hosting the 2009 Games and were granted 30 days within which to submit their bid proposals to the NACAC headquarters.
The Cayman Islands AAA has since advised that it is the intention of the Government to host the Caribbean Overseas Territories Meet in June 2008 and the decision has thus been made not to proceed with the bid to host the 2009 Carifta Games.
The Bahamas has advised that a recent general election resulted in a new government, and they will need time to meet with the new Minister, outline their plans and hopefully get it on the cabinet’s agenda for discussion/approval. They have requested an extension to June 29th.
After consultation with the third applicant, St. Lucia, the aspirants have been given until June 30th, 2007 to submit their bids which must be accompanied by letters of support from their respective governments.
The bids will then be summarized, circulated to all Members and hopefully the venue selection can be confirmed at the NACAC Congress on August 5th.
