Henley Dragons GB Team members (Andy T MIA)
Thursday 19th September - 1000m
All four Team GB crews reached the Major Finals in the 1000m competition at the World Championships in Sydney on Thursday.
The team won two silver medals - in the Premier Open and Premier Women's divisions. The Senior Open crew finished 5th and the Juniors were 4th in their events.
All racing has been incredibly close, which is unusual for the longer 1000m event, with a photo finish in the Women's event. Canada, GB and China all crossed the line within half a second. Canada were just infront with GB pipping China to the line by just 0.03 seconds.
The Premier Open event was equally as exciting - the GB crew had a storming start and led the field down the whole length of the course. Could they hold on to the line as the competition closed in fast? Alas... it was not to be as USA just inched their nose in front at the last second. A well deserved Silver though is the best result ever for the Open 1000m crew at World level.
