The World Games Of The Future: 2009 And Beyond
After signing the contract for hosting The 7th World Games 2005 with the city of Duisburg, the IWGA received a number of tentative bids from prospective candidates in America, Asia, Europe and the Oceanic region for hosting The 8th World Games 2009.
The host of The World Games is required to provide all facilities for the different sports and to offer full board accommodation to the participating athletes and officials.
Accommodation at university campuses is the solution which provides athletes and officials with the benefits of a 'single village' environment . As local transport is also part of the host's responsibility, a compact layout of all venues is desirable, allowing athletes, officials and spectators to travel easily to and from the different sites of the competitions.
Among other important aereas to be addressed in the bid book are: security, medical services, doping control and media facilities.
Promotional activities in connection with The World Games and a solid concept to broadcast them worldwide are the key ingredients for a successful bid. A preliminary arrangement for a host broadcaster to produce the international television signal is essential.
After receiving a thorough brief on the evaluation of the candidature files and inspections on site, the 2004 IWGA Annual Meeting mandated the President and the Secretary General to finalize the contractual agreement with the city of Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, as the host for The 8th World Games 2009.
On July 1, 2004, the IWGA announced the award of The 8th World Games 2009 to Kaohsiung City, Chinese Taipei's second largest metropolis behind the capital, after the host city contract had been signed between IWGA President Ron Froehlich and Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh.

Bidding for The 9th World Games 2013 starts in June 2006. A comprehensive tender document will be circulated to all candidate hosts who submit a letter of intent to the IWGA Headquarters.
