RICHARD L CARRION REXACH Chairman IOC Finance Commission/Executive Board Member Chairman & CEO Popular Inc
As Chairman of the Finance Commission since 2002 and Executive Board member since 2004 of the International Olympic Committee, Richard L. Carrión has led negotiations of Olympic broadcast rights in the United States, Canada, Brazil, Middle East and Korea. Carrión first joined the IOC as a member in 1991.
Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Carrión is Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of Popular, Inc., a publicly traded financial holding company with about $45 billion in total assets. Popular ranks among the top 35 largest banks in the United States and its wholly owned subsidiary, Banco Popular, is Puerto Rico's leading depository institution.
Carrión is also board director of Verizon Communications Inc. and Class A director of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
After obtaining a Bachelor's Degree from Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania and receiving a Master’s Degree in Information Services from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Carrión joined Banco Popular in 1976.
