Prior to joining HOK Sport architecture in 1996, Nicholas worked in both Cambridge and London specialising in broadcast and media facilities.
Nicholas started his career at HOK (in our Australian offices) by working on the venue for the 2000 Olympic Games in Australia, the Telstra Stadium, focusing on the planned conversion of the stadium to its post-Olympic 80,000 seat mode.
Since returning to England, he has worked as project designer and design team leader responsible for, a complex refurbishment of the All England Lawn Tennis Club facilities within Centre Court, a sensitive refurbishment of the Listed Wembley Arena, and a new multipurpose arena for the city of Bristol. From Sept 2001 Nicholas was Project Principal for the O2 Arena, a revolutionary scheme involving the construction of a 26,000 capacity arena within the Millennium Dome, Greenwich. This exciting proposal, part of a scheme to transform the entire Greenwich Peninsula, has since its opening in June 2007 become the highest grossing arena in the world, with state of the art facilities for a great variety of entertainment, sport and leisure events.
Nick is currently working on the design for a new 60,000 seat football stadium for Olympique Lyonais, a unique scheme with provision for a future retractable roof, and an adaptable concert capacity from 20,000 spectators up to 60,000 spectators.
Nicholas enjoys all aspects of the architectural process, especially initial design and construction phases. He has a particular interest in ensuring that the quality of design, from the largest element to minor detail, is maintained throughout the project.
