Beacham powers to Over 60’s win in
Stourbridge Stagger

Roger finishes strongly (left) & Gordon Hardy (right) rests on his laurels.
Sunday 6th Feb. 2005: Only 5 B&R runners lined up in a field of 360+ at the Stourbridge Stagger start in Mary Stevens Park. The largest contingent looked to be from Amazing Feet and we were probably well out-numbered even by the green and yellow vests from Telford. The race stuck to the route used in the last few years (the ninth mile didn’t used to cross the railway). The only slight hiccup occurred after about a mile where the main race met the on-coming runners from the women-only 6 km race. As usual the uphill gulley after the turn at Churchill was very muddy but most of the course was good underfoot and we were treated to skylarks’ song and snow drops. The race was won by Andy Grice from Amazing Feet in 62-37. Roger Beacham was 123rd in 84-27 to take the men’s over 60’s trophy to add to his glassware collection. Other B&R finishers were Phil Anderson 34th in 74-39, Gordon Hardy 74th in 79-24, Dave Whipp 115th in 83-59 Bill Tucker 295th in 101-44. Another well-organised and marshalled event from Stourbridge R.C.
