Race the Train

Sat. 20th Aug. 2005

     Three runners at Tywyn

Above: Roger, Steve & Emily show no signs of running out of steam.

The club was well represented in these hard multi-terrain races - also a good weekend was had with most club members and their partners camping at Tywyn on the Welsh coast. This resulted in a successful social weekend.

The 10 km race (starting a mile up the line from Dolgoch Falls and finishing in Tywyn) was run in the morning with B&R's Phil Carbutt finishing 6th overall and 1st vet O/50 in 42-51 (in fact he beat all the younger vets too). Steve James enjoyed the run to finish in the top third of the field (104th) in 57-32. Liz Clifford was B&R's only woman runner on the day and finished  in 61-10 to be 153rd out of 360 finishers. The winners were Adam Grice (Heanor R.C.) in 39-08 and Jane Mountford (Buckley Runners) in 48-35.

Three B&R men ran the long race in the warm afternoon with Ian Keyte clocking 1-40-46 in 43rd to beat the train (1-47-36). Steve Clews was 156th in 1-53-52 and Roger Beacham was 434th in 2-16-39. Roger's daughter Emily, competing in her Kenilworth Runners colours finished 238th in 2-00-04 (she is a familiar face to many of our runners and has been coaching the B&R kids at the Ryland recently). 678 competitors finished the tough 14.75 mile course from Tywyn to near Abergynolwyn and back with the final runner crossing the line in 3-25-21. The winners were Gareth Raven (Sale Harriers) in 1-19-23 and Tara Krzywicki (Charnwood A.C.) in 1-39-43.
