Gloucester XC League

B&R fielded men’s and women’s teams at the first Gloucester Cross-Country League fixture at Blackbridge. As in previous years, the courses took in laps of the field beside Gloucester A.C.’s clubhouse and the grounds of the Crypt School.

Phil Carbutt was first of eleven B&R runners in the men’s race and was also first M50 overall. Dave Kesterton was less than one minute behind, seemingly none the worse for his impressive fall on the descent in treacherous conditions in the recent Worcester Beacon Race at Malvern. There was the unusual sight of Kidderminster & Stourport’s Tom Kenderdine not winning as Tipton’s Dan Robinson won the race by two minutes.

The four B&R runners in the women’s race were separated by just 61 seconds with Helen Russell first home just two places ahead of Sally Evans. Unfortunately there were only two B&R veterans in the race so the club will not feature in the vet’s team standings.

The only B&R runner in any of the younger age groups was Simon Lanckham who finished eighteenth out of forty-two finishers in the U15 boy’s race in a time of 16-08. The winner was Chris Ball from Leamington A.C. in 13-57.
